No Proof? No Fraud!- Ohio 2004 Presidential Election Records Destroyed In Violation Of Federal Law

We’re all at least a little familiar with the claims of election fraud irregularities in Ohio during the 2004 presidential election. Well, despite a federal law ordering the voting records be preserved, in 56 of Ohio’s 88 counties, ballots and election records have been “accidentally destroyed.”

Accidentally destroyed? That’s about as believable as Scooter Libby and Alberto Gonzales memory lapses. But also about as expected from today’s Republican party.

Two-thirds of Ohio counties have destroyed or lost their 2004 presidential ballots and related election records, according to letters from county election officials to the Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner.

The lost records violate Ohio law, which states federal election records must be kept for 22 months after Election Day, and a U.S. District Court order issued last September that the 2004 ballots be preserved while the court hears a civil rights lawsuit alleging voter suppression of African-American voters in Columbus.

“On the one hand, people will now say you can’t prove the fraud,” said Cliff Arnebeck, a Columbus attorney representing the King Lincoln Bronzeville Neighborhood Association, which filed voter suppression suit, “but the rule of law says that when evidence is destroyed it creates a presumption that the people who destroyed evidence did so because it would have proved the contention of the other side.”

I guess as long as the president and his administration continue to demonstrate their willful disregard for the rule of law, and as long as the congress and courts do nothing to stop them, the rest of the Republican party feels safe to follow suit. Welcome to the new America, land of the creeps and home of the knaves.

I can see ONE county, but 56? Against a federal order? Yeah, that smells.

  2. SteveIL Says:

They were probably destroyed by the shooter on the grassy knoll.

  3. Jersey McJones Says:

Well, if it happened in Illinois, I’d have a pretty good guess who’d have done it!

  4. SteveIL Says:

I agree, Jersey. The same people who have been doing it to us for 50 years; the college of clowns who run the city of Chicago and Cook County.

  5. Jersey McJones Says:

LOL! yeah, I forgot about them! Good ol’ Daleys! Run the city pretty well, though. More than I can say for corruption on the Right. It never seems to benefit anyone but themselves.
