Giuliani Sez, Don’t You Poke ‘Round my Religion

When asked about whether he’s a practicing Catholic, Giuliani said:

That’s a matter of individual conscience,” Giuliani said. “I don’t think there should be a religious test for public office.”

Oh yeah. That worked SO well for John Kerry. On the other hand, at least Kerry’s kids didn’t want to vote Republican.

I wonder how Obama would react if asked about him studying Islam abroad.
Or do we not poke ’round a democrat’s religion?

I think Giuliana gave the right answer. The question is will it play with his base.

That’s kind of my point, Chris. It is the best answer, but when Kerry gave it, the right wing machine fried him for it. Sauce for the goose, etc.

Tos, what I’m trying to point out is that Giuliani gave a nearly identical answer that Kerry did, and Kerry was punished by the right for that answer. So, basically, the right started this whole poking into a democrat’s religion, and now that the shoe is on the other foot, suddenly the Dem’s response makes sense? Talk about flip flops.

I was not aware of the tie in with Kerry.

Okay I see your point I guess I looked beyond it….this time.
But you do agree that the left focus’ alot on religion more or lack there of?

  7. christopher Radulich Says:

I think my brain went dead there for a moment since the tie in is in the the original post.

No Tos, I don’t at all. The whole reason I started blogging in 2004 was because I was pissed about the whole right wing “godless left” load of crapola. Dems didn’t make religion out to be anything other than a personal, constitutionally protected choice. In fact, Dems didn’t talk about religion in the scope of their candidacy at all. This is where they right tried to slam them as a bunch of athiests, which is untrue. There are both faithful and non believers in the Democratic party. The focus on Religion in terms of electability was a Right Wing concept, and like many things, once you let it out of the box, its application becomes broader.

    np, Chris. :-)
