“Talk to you later, Buckwheat.”

This phrase was uttered by a Louisianna state representative that is running for reelection. She actually said it to one of her supporters. The elected official is….A Democrat.

“Rep. Carla Blanchard Dartez, a Democrat, acknowledged that she ended a Thursday night conversation with Hazel Boykin by saying, “Talk to you later, Buckwheat.” Dartez had been thanking Boykin for driving voters to the polls.”

I bet the media sweeps this one under the rug too.

  2. Chell Says:

She probably didn’t mean it to be a racist remark. But public figures and our representatives do need to be careful, and try to be aware of how what they say can be perceived. From the article it is unclear (debated?) whether or not she has apologized. A personal apology to Boyken ought to set things straight in this case. Looking at the involved parties though, this issue will probably get majorly blown up to be fodder for MSM.

I think that people who don’t see other people as inferior manage to get through conversations without adding sentance addendums like Buckwheat and Macaca.

Racism is party blind. It’s individual centric. Until we are willing to accept that, we will continue to absolve people who need a wake up call.

Blanchard has a real problem and she needs to take internal stock.

  4. Dusty Says:

    Good afternoon Chell :)

The woman stated she has not rec’d an apology..its in the article too:

But Hazel Boykin said Dartez still has not personally apologized.

Jet, I agree that racism is individual centric. Its also taught and handed down generation to generation..unless folks wake up and see it for what it is.

Sure the media will play it up or down..depending on the media outlet..but the bottom line is this; We have to point out to people when they screw up..or how else will they learn what’s acceptable in our society?

I live in a part of Cali where people have no problem talking OUT LOUD about people of color so that the people of color actually hear them. They see nothing wrong with it…they were raised as racists and most of their friends are racists too. They will tell you that blacks and hispanics and asian’s are inferior..they believe it with all their heart and soul.

The first time I heard old white men talking about ‘niggers in their bar’ I almost fell off my barstool. My husband had to drag me out of the bar because I started over to the sumbitches that were talking shit..My husband said “we” would of been tossed out of the bar..not the old white racists.

Jet’s right, it doesn’t surprise me at all that it was a democrat. Asshats are asshats no matter what their stripe.

You may be right that she didn’t mean it as an insult, especially since she knew the person, but that doesn’t excuse idiotic behavior. We should all worry about the competence of a person like her. If this incident is an indication of her common sense and decision-making skills, she sure as hell shouldn’t be state rep.

  6. Chell Says:

Hi Dusty! I’m very sorry you have to hear that sort of sickening talk, and sorry it’s considered OK by even one person. I agree with some comments here that Dartez should be held accountable for her words. Even ignorance is not a desirable trait in a lawmaker, let alone that which hurts so deeply. The article does say that the Boykins deny they got an apology. It also says Dartez claims to have apologized. I can only hope that a sincere apology from the offending party to the offended would avoid this being turned into a circus by the media, politicians and others looking to gain whatever publicity.

It surprises me that it was a Democrat since they are all morally correct and can do no wrong compared to the Republicans running this country.

  8. Dusty Says:

Stevie..I heart you but kiss my wide load baby! ;)

  9. Matthew O'Keefe Says:

Kiss my wide load baby???? ROFLMAO!!!

  10. Dusty Says:

Glad I could provide you with a smirk this early in the am Matt ;)

  11. steve Says:

What’s wrong Dusty, truth hurt?? :)

  12. Dusty Says:

Steve..you actually believe what you just wrote? If you do..then your a real piece of work m’dear..because I hold everyone, regardless of party affiliation, responsible for racist remarks and actions. Would I of put their party affiliation up if I was trying to cover up for the dems..and btw..I am registered as “decline to state” here in Cali..I side with no one party.

So to that end I say…what friggin difference does it make who said it? It was wrong no matter who the culprit is, pal.

But you on the other hand..would rather toss politics into the mix. Racism is wrong all the time.

  13. Lisa Says:

It’s only morally wrong to the media if a republican says it Steve. Let’s see how much play it gets on Hardball and Olberman. So far I don’t see this story anywhere and I am sure if I do they won’t be so quick to print “democrat” after her name.

  14. Dusty Says:

Well, I sure as hell didn’t have a problem putting her party affiliation up Lisa..and btw..since when to you watch Countdown?

Chrissy Matthews is a John McCain supporter..you know that right?

  15. Lisa Says:

I don’t watch Olberamn he’s too hateful and because Matthews is McCaine supporter doesn’t mean he’s pro republican. He’s just not pro Hillary or pro any other democrat nominees.

  16. Dusty Says:

Then how would you know if either show brings this issue up then, pray tell?

Tweety pulls for McCain..what party does McCain belong to? Jeez..its not rocket science. Tweety also gives everyone a hard time and although I don’t like his personal politics I do watch him daily.

    Of course I don’t miss Countdown..and LMAO..hateful? Bill O isn’t that is he? Nah.. :P

  17. steve Says:

    I put the “O” in O’ Reilly…

  18. Jet Netwal Says:

Wow, Steve. I had no idea you swung both ways!

Truer words were never spoken. While taken by itself it was definitely wrong when compared to the republicans she’s an angel.

  20. Dusty Says:

An angel? nah..but a saint perhaps Christopher ;)
