Des Moines Register excluding Kucinich from final Iowa debate

And they are doing it on a lousy technicality:

He didn’t open an office in the state with paid employees..only volunteers apparently. But Keyes was allowed in the Rethug debate yesterday? Hell I didn’t even know that fuckwit was running, although according to Eugene Robinson last night on Countdown Keyes runs every election cycle for President..its his only job apparently. Back to my man Kucinich, his office released the following statement regarding the horseshit excuse given him by the idiots in Iowa:

“The Iowa caucuses have been portrayed as having national implications, and if the Register has decided to use hair-splitting technicalities to exclude the leading voice of the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party, then the entire process is suspect,”

Call or email the Des Moines register and voice your complaint. Even if you don’t plan to vote for Kucinich, he is the only voice of the progressives in this Presidental election cycle. He shouldn’t be uninvited. According to NYTexan, the paper is being flooded with calls by irate voters that want to hear ALL the Democratic candidates.

Edit: from one of my commenters on Sirens Chronicles, we get their advertisers info:

CALL advertisers off their web site. Be polite, ask to speak to the sales, general
manager or person in charge of advertising. Object to their advertising in
a paper that would include Keyes in the Republican debate, but exclude
Kucinich.

If you are feeling REALLY frisky, go into classified ads and contact people who have something for sale and object to them advertising in the paper. IT WORKS. They call the paper back and say WTF?

I would like to see Dennis in all the debates as well but you have to admit that rules are rules and if their camp did not know/follow the rules whose fault if that? If they cannot attend to the simple things, like making sure the i’s are dotted and the t’s crossed, would he be more attentive to the details if elected to run the country?

manapp, give me an effin break. These ‘rules’ were instituted after the fact. It has since come out that Kucinich had paid employees but since they worked from ‘home’ instead of a ’storefront’ the Register took the opportunity to exclude him.

All his storefront workers were volunteers.

Yet, they allowed the crackpot Alan Keyes to participate in the Rethug debate..explain that one. Did you know he was running AGAIN? I didn’t and I pay attention to politics every waking minute of my day. He didn’t participate in any of the previous debates btw.

Your logic in this instance sucks imho.

I agree with you Dusty that they should let Dennis debate. He is a main line candidate and everyone knows it.

No, I did not know Keyes was running and was surprised at his inclusion in the GOP debate.

DO you know who axed him on the rules thing? Was it the other Dems?

I was being a little smart assed with my i’s and t’s comment. Sorry. I have actually heard Dennis on talk radio (Ed Schultz) and though I disagree with his “government is the answer” outlook, I enjoy listening to him and think he is very sincere in his beliefs.

The local Gannett-owned Rag, the Des Moines Register axed him manapp. At the last minute no less. The blogosphere inundated them with complaints and we also called their advertisers to complain, who in turn called The Register and asked..wtf?

Kucinich isn’t a wingnut. He might not be ‘mainstream’ but he isn’t a wingnut. I will vote for him regardless of whom the Democraps put up.

Kucinich is an old fashioned progressive populist just as Ron Paul is an old fashioned nationalist populist. They are both out of time and place, though Paul seems to draw a lot of money (his backers tend to be younger and wealthier).

I love Kucinich, but I realize that he is in no way whatsoever a “main line candidate.” The fact is that none the “‘mainstream’” candidates are anywhere near the views of Kucinich or Paul. Most Americans part with the two of them on too many positions for them to be viable. I am a Kucinich man, myself, of course, and I understand the Paul-ists (as opposed to Cathoclic “Paulists”). But I know that when you push issues too far one way or the other, people get uncomfortable and tend toward the mainstream ways of thinking. For example: I personally believe that parental notification of abortion should be optional to minors. Now, while most Dems believe that RvW should stand, they don’t like the idea of their own daughter getting an abortion without their consent - even though they’d probably give it. Another example: I say the hell with it, let’s keep NAFTA and GATT and CAFTA, but lets open up our immigration and give more smart foreign aid to those poorer nations involved - or - I think we should immediately repeal NAFTA, MFN, and everything like ‘em. Most voters don’t like any of those ideas. While I don’t think GATT, MFN, NAFTA, et al, are good deals overall, I see them as inevitible just as their consequences are - like mass migration and an international leveling of standards of living. Most voters see all of this as downsided and so throw out everything while being stuck with the reality. Here, voters have put themselves in Catch-22.

I wish Kucinich was main line, mainstream, or even something close to that. They aren’t. Americans don’t like facing reality. Guys like Kucinich and Paul really lay things out for all to see. People don’t like to see things they don’t like. They’d rather just keep within their own little comic-book universes of ideological utopias.

Good comment Jersey! I love how you laid it all out, especially the last paragraph. ;) Which, btw..I totally agree with.
