Presidential Politics: Iowa In Pictures

Given my own level of ambivalence at this particular juncture in the Presidential campaign (aside from supporting the eventual Democratic nominee), I decided to offer my own commentary on the Iowa primary in pictures.

Feel free to offer your own observations.

This is a proud night, I think. Obama isn’t my political cup of tea but tonight, a black man came out on top. I don’t know if he can win his party’s nomination or win the national election but he proved that he’s for real. Hell, if he wins the Democratic nomination, I might just vote for him. Hell, if he is opposing Mike Huckabee as the Republican nominee, I will definitely vote for Obama.

Mixed feelings. I’m glad Obama came out ahead on the Dem side, although I’d rather it had been Kucinich or Richardson.

But Huckabee scares the hell out of me. I believe that if he is elected he may go a long way toward warping our beloved country into a fundamentalist theocracy and usher in a new dark age for those of us who don’t share his beliefs. All the greatest evils in history have been carried out by zealots who lacked self-doubt or empathy for anyone who was unlike them. As Sinclair Lewis said, when fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.

very interesting evening. my man joe did not make it, but after listening to the various speeches i believe we are entering a period of change as described by obama. obama is a powerful speaker and possesses the essential characteristics of leadership. he inspires. he enables others to act. he paints a shared vision of the future. hillary received the very important change message last evening and my guess is that she will attempt to make the necessary adjustments to make the fight for the nomination a tough one. the clintons are real professional politicians and this fight has just begun. edwards is a real warrior and while i don’t see him as the eventual nominee the nation is blessed to have his talent, energy, and spirit of fairness. i feel much better this morning about the future.

and for my republican friends i feel embarrassment. the coalition of wealthy capitalists, social conservatives, and the bigoted is committing fratricide. but we all know that this act in nature frequently produces a very strong survivor and the dems had better be ready for very tough sledging ahead.

    LJ you are nuts…

There have been religious Presidents before and if Huckabee gets elected he is not going rewrite the Constitution forcing prayer on your kids in school.

Not gonna happen… Theocracy..LOL!!! Take off the tinfoil hat man…
