<description>Daniel.. very interesting analysis. Reminds me of the situation in 1980 when you concluded that voters are "looking for a little hope." At that time Carter, a very hard worker and realist, was strapped with high energy costs, Iranian hostage situation and racing inflation. Reagan, the real huckster of hope, took this nation down a trail of avarice unsurpassed in world history. We know that "hope is antithetic to despair," but reality is a tough taskmaster, and folks are beginning to exhibit the same angst i recall from the late 1970's.

i only have a couple of things i really want from this election. First, i want a leader who will take us down a path with real heart, not the compassionate conservative type. Second i want a leader who will commit to ferret out every one of these bastards that came into the government during the past seven years and worked to make government totally ineffective. i believe our governmental system can work if it has people down in the trenches who are empowered and enabled to make it work. Friends of mine say the rupubs are diving into career service positions all over our government and this worries me. As for your hunch, "Hope is not eternal, I've found - just purposefully ignorant."</description>
