Grab a Cigar and Head for the Back Room

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Come on, Dean, do your stuff. I know I’m tired of this, and I think we’ve shredded ourselves enough for one cycle. Harry Reid, speaking on 3/24 to the Las Vegas Journal:

Q: Do you still think the Democratic race can be resolved before the convention?

Reid: Easy.

Q: How is that?

Reid: It will be done.

Q: It just will?

Reid: Yep.

Q: Magically?

Reid: No, it will be done. I had a conversation with Governor Dean (Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean) today. Things are being done.

I hope so. We’ve gone from fielding a deep, accomplished and intelligent slate of candidates to high level infighting. I’m ready to send the whole lot of them to bed without supper. Let’s move on.

Now That’s Just Nasty

Is there anybody this Ho won’t schlep with? I don’t know about you, but when somebody has it in for my family, does everything in their considerable power to destroy everything we’ve worked to achieve, does it publically and does it dirty, I would NOT be pals. I would not forget, and I damn sure wouldn’t pander.

Of course, I’m not Hillary Clinton. The picture is priceless.
clinton-scaife.jpg
That’s Richard Mellon Scaife! Yesterday! Jeebus, I need a shower after looking at that. For those with short memories, Scaife was THE MAN orchestrating the Clinton attacks. From Salon, 4/7/1998:

The man whom Time magazine, in its latest issue, calls “the ultimate patron” of the Clinton haters has been identified by Salon and the New York Observer as a key funder of the $2.4 million Arkansas Project, a four-year effort organized through the American Spectator magazine to discredit the president. Scaife foundation money, as Salon has reported, has also allegedly been used to pay key Whitewater witness David Hale and to help bankroll Paula Jones’ sexual harassment case against Clinton. — Salon

First Rush Limbaugh, then FOX, and now Scaife? This is the campaign of a progressive Democrat? Hanging and banging with the sleaze? Oh, HELL no. This is the act of an incredible selfishness; winning is more important that what is to be won. Electing Hillary means not only that NOTHING will change in terms of the corruption in high levels of American Government, but that Hillary sold the Dems to the Conservative movement to win.

They will own us.

You see, it’s not just that Scaife masterminded the Clinton attacks; he’s been the major player in the Conservative end game for more that forty years. FORTY.

In fact, Scaife’s part in the Clinton chronicles represents the second time that he has been a secretive major player in efforts to profoundly alter the course of politics and public policy in America. In the 1970s, his money fueled the “New Right” movement that sought to replace the perceived “liberal establishment” in Washington and the media with a new, conservative order. — Salon

Scaife became the primary founder of the “New Right”, bankrolling a big chunk of the Heritage Foundation and other conservative think tanks whose purpose was to sell the conservative platform to congress and voters.

Other Scaife-funded groups dedicated themselves to watch-dogging the media, training federal judges in conservative economics and litigating on behalf of causes such as opening up federal lands to oil and gas exploration. At the same time, Scaife gave generously to candidates who believed in these policies, a two-pronged strategy that proved triumphant in 1980 with the election of Ronald Reagan. – Salon

On Clinton bashing, Scaife’s name is attached to bankrolling the Vince Foster conspiracy theories, financing the Paula Jones publicity (everything from buying her lawyers to advising her), paying for investigations into Bill Clinton’s drug use, and giving a million plus to Pepperdine University to fund a new public policy school, and putting KEN STARR in as its dean. Yeah, I don’t think I’ll ever get clean either.

What on God’s green earth is Hillary doing with Scaife? According to the National Review:

…here is a photo from Hillary Clinton’s visit today to the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. In this picture, she is seen talking to none other than Richard Mellon Scaife, the owner of the paper and the man who once said that the death of Vincent Foster was the “Rosetta stone” of the Bill Clinton administration. (He also funded the so-called “Arkansas Project” at The American Spectator.) We’ve heard reports of a rapprochement between Scaife and the Clintons of late, and the Pennsylvania primary is fast approaching, but this is still a pretty striking picture. Byron York, The National Review

Hillary is willing to bend over for the conservative machine that has brought this country into a recession, reduced our dollar to toilet paper, gave us a debt load to China that compromises our world standing, stuck us in a five year illegal war, spies on the citizenry, strips the constitution, ignores laws passed by congress, castrates the judicial and legislative branches, manipulates the media through denial of access, blows off treaties on a whim, and lies, and lies and lies. She is sucking up to the people who crucified her family. Why would we think she would stand up for us?

Winning Pennsylvania is enough of a reason for Hillary. Is it enough for you?

It is not enough for me. I’m not willing to have my country sold down the river for ego. I don’t want a leader willing to do whatever it takes to win, including sleeping with their enemies. I crave principled leadership. Dean needs to end this now. This election is a crossroads. We either turn away from people like Scaife and Clinton, or we shred our democracy and the Democratic Party. We can’t have both, and no matter how convincing they lie about it, at the end of the day, it’s still bullshit

 Pick up your shovels, America.

In Other News, Snowballs Thrive in Hell

shaaa-and-monkeys-might-fly.bmp

God in Heaven, I found myself agreeing… with David Brooks. Pigs, aloft as far as the eye can see, are vying for airspace with monkeys recently launched from, er… I’ll spare you the details.

David Freaking Brooks. I’ve read him in the Grey Lady, and watched David Brooks on Jim Lehrer’s News Hour for years. I’ve laughed at him, mocked him, and thrown balled up socks at his smarmy visage. I consider him a boot licker of first order. He inspires hope in me, as his positions are ususally holey and under-supported. If this was what progressives were up against, prevailing was the only option.

It would take a miracle for Brooks and me to align our stars. That, or a village.

Hillary, the village idiot, put together what my husband, lifelong Republican, could not. Brooks and I are joined at the hip, at least temporarily, because of the selfish, blindly self serving, machiavellian, ego-centric, destructive and defectively conceived Clinton campaign. Did I leave anything out? Not according to me and my new BFF Brooks:

Last week, an important Clinton adviser told Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen (also of Politico) that Clinton had no more than a 10 percent chance of getting the nomination. Now, she’s probably down to a 5 percent chance.

Five percent.

Let’s take a look at what she’s going to put her party through for the sake of that 5 percent chance: The Democratic Party is probably going to have to endure another three months of daily sniping. For another three months, we’ll have the Carvilles likening the Obamaites to Judas and former generals accusing Clintonites of McCarthyism. For three months, we’ll have the daily round of résumé padding and sulfurous conference calls. We’ll have campaign aides blurting “blue dress” and only-because-he’s-black references as they let slip their private contempt. — David Brooks

This crap is in full swing at this point, and the irony of me bashing Hill in this post is not lost on me. You won’t, however, ever hear me get into anything about Monica’s dress. That wasn’t her fault, and frankly, I felt sorry for her that her husband couldn’t keep his pants on while spotlit as President and embarrassed her publically. That said, I will get all down her case for having him give interviews during her campaign to Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. WTF? It’s a new low every day, with more to come.

For three more months (maybe more!) the campaign will proceed along in its Verdun-like pattern. There will be a steady rifle fire of character assassination from the underlings, interrupted by the occasional firestorm of artillery when the contest touches upon race, gender or patriotism. The policy debates between the two have been long exhausted, so the only way to get the public really engaged is by poking some raw national wound.

For the sake of that 5 percent, this will be the sourest spring. About a fifth of Clinton and Obama supporters now say they wouldn’t vote for the other candidate in the general election. Meanwhile, on the other side, voters get an unobstructed view of the Republican nominee. John McCain’s approval ratings have soared 11 points. He is now viewed positively by 67 percent of Americans. A month ago, McCain was losing to Obama among independents by double digits in a general election matchup. Now McCain has a lead among this group.

For three more months, Clinton is likely to hurt Obama even more against McCain, without hurting him against herself. And all this is happening so she can preserve that 5 percent chance.

When you step back and think about it, she is amazing. She possesses the audacity of hopelessness. — David Brooks

I choose hope over hopelessness. I choose clear thinking over Hail Mary passes. I choose leadership over vindictiveness. I choose love of country over love of self. I choose Obama.

Oh, and David, Baby. Call me! Mwah!

Cause and Effect.

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

I tried to write this in a polite way, but screw that - aint happening. I’m pissed. I’m angry. I’m downright ready to go kick a Clinton in the crotch (either one - it doesn’t matter). Who the fuck do they think they are? When did it become OK for a candidate (or her horribly disappointing ex-president husband) to question the patriotism of a rival? Who the hell are they to start launching swift-boat attacks against Barack Obama?

Not sure what I mean? Oh well then allow me to enlighten you on how scummy that family is. Only a week or so after Hillary suggests that REPUBLICAN candidate John McCain would make a better Commander in Chief than Senator Obama (way to go Judas!) her husband, her slimy, philandering, piece of crap ex-president of a husband stood in front of a crowd in North Carolina and discussed a General Election night match up between John McCain and his wife (and yes his wife only!) said:

“I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country,” he said in Charlotte, N.C. “And people could actually ask themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics.”

So what are you saying Bill - that if the Democratic front-runner were to face off against John McCain we wouldn’t have two candidates who love this country? Wait that is EXACTLY what you are saying (and no you Hillary apologists out there, you can’t spin it. There is no other way to read that.). You’re saying that because you are know that right now you can play off white America’s sudden fear of Jeremiah Wrights sermons. You know that right now you can reinforce the suddenly shocking idea that Barack Obama is a black man.

You disgust me.

You disgust me because no matter how I read the content of your words, I cannot find a context in which it is not character assassination and race-baiting. It is Roveian in its brilliance. Question a man’s love for his country. Cast doubt on his patriotism. It worked to put a draft-dodging coke-head in the White House over a war hero, so certainly it will work to put a white woman there over a scary black man. Someone call Atticus Finch quick because I think Barack just got Tom Robinsoned.

Looks like Hillary is married to Bob Ewell. And if you don’t get any of those references go read a book. Honestly, if more people did maybe they wouldn’t fall for this shit.

And fall for it they will. The same way they fell for the 29 second clip of Jeremiah Wright screaming about Nagasaki, about Hiroshima and used it to condemn both him and Senator Obama. It doesn’t matter that the clip was classic content without context. It doesn’t matter that the whole clip is an interesting discussion that weaves the bible, Malcolm X and Edward Peck (former U.S. Chief of Mission in Iraq, former deputy director of the White House Task Force on Terrorism under the Reagan Administration and former U.S. Ambassador to a number of countries oh yeah and lily white.) together to remind people that ACTIONS have CONSEQUENCES. Nope that doesn’t matter at all. All that matters is a black man said something BAD about America.

Go grab the rope, it’s time to lynch us a candidate boys.

Personally, I think that any candidate that doesn’t get the idea that our actions have consequences isn’t fit to serve. I think any candidate who doesn’t understand that eventually all chickens come home to roost is too stupid to be president. That isn’t anti-American, it Pro-Common Sense. We’ve had 7+ years of an asshole who doesn’t get Cause and Effect, why are we not embracing a candidate who does?

Oh wait, because a man in a funny outfit and dark skin DARED to question American foreign policy while preaching a sermon. Not the candidate, his pastor, but hey this is America and that’s enough. Especially if your a black man living in the United States. And we wonder WHY Pastor Wright is so indignant about racial injustice?

I’m not accusing the Clinton campaign of releasing the bullshit, sliced and diced video. I’m not saying they are behind the racially motivated character assassination of Senator Obama, but they sure seem to be using it to their advantage. Anything to win seems to be there motto. Anything. No matter how false, despicable or disgusting it is.

Well Hillary, actions do have consequences. Cause does have effect. This just cost you my vote. Democrats better pray she doesn’t win the primary.

Stand Up To Telecom Lobby, Get Swiftboated

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

It had to happen. When Boozo the Clown doesn’t get his way, tantrums will follow. He wants retroactive immunity for telecom executives and he wants it now. He said NOW!! He’s gonna thrust out his lower lip, stamp his foot and hold his breath until Congress bends over for him. Or until a group of rightwing millionaires steps in to purchase the democratic process (I thought they already did).

A group of his fellow wingtards calling themselves Defense of Democracies has sprung to the rescue. They’ve raised $2 million (so far) for the defeat of fifteen Democrats who had this wacky idea about telecom VIPs being subject to the same laws as the rest of us.

Here is a YouTube video of one of their ads. It’s hilarious. If it was a skit on Saturday Night Live or the Daily Show, it would have you in stitches. But it becomes less funny when you realize: there are millions of cerebrally-challenged knuckledraggers out there who actually believe this shit.

Here is some more information about this illustrious group, including their membership. If you’re at all familiar with the Project For A New American Century (PNAC), the personnel from Defense of Democracies will be “déjà vu all over again.”

Pay no attention to the same fifteen wingnuts behind every curtain.
